The Universities of the Third Age in the U.K. are autonomous, self help organisations run by the voluntary efforts of their members with local constitutions.

All U3As are members of The Third Age Trust, a registered charity which is their national support and advisory body [273,141 members, 826 local groups].

Aims: ... "to encourage and enable people no longer in full time paid employment to help each other share their knowledge, skills, interests... not for qualifications, but for fun".

History From France in 1972, to the U.K. in 1982.
